This Is It #1 in DVD sales

According to Home Media Magazine, Michael Jackson's This Is It rocketed to the number one position on national home video sales charts in its first week of release selling 1.2 million copies in the U.S. alone. This is a record performance for first week sales of a music film. According to Nielsen VideoScan, the film was also the number 1 seller in the Blu Ray format for the week ending January 31, 2010. Fully 21% of sales of This Is It were on the Blu Ray format, which is also a record for a release of any type.

This Is It chronicles the exhaustive rehearsals leading up to what would have been the largest concert tour ever. The documentary provides a glimpse of the creative genius that was Michael Jackson and offers the viewer the opportunity to meet the dancers, musicians, and crew behind the massive production. This Is It earned over a quarter of a billion dollars in its limited theatrical release worldwide.

SONY Corp. posts $871 million (USD) Quarterly Profit

The numbers are in: Sony's electronics and entertainment divisions posted a quarterly profit of $871 million USD (79.2 billion yen). That's QUARTERLY. Third quarter profits a year ago were only 10.4 billion yen. Sony attributes the surge in profits to cost-cutting measures and the performance of its consumer electronics division. We here might beg to differ; certainly the performance of the This Is It film coupled with strong sales of MJ's catalogue had a little something to do with it. Michael had a little something to say about Sony. Watch the video.

This is all too convenient

Essence.com is reporting a novel allegedly written by Michael Jackson himself is being shopped around to publishers. The novel contains illustrations conceptualized by Jackson and tells the story of a rock star at the pinnacle of his career who begins to obsess about death and becomes disillusioned with his fame and money. That plot line sounds eerily familiar doesn't it? It sounds like the image of Michael's life painted by the media in the wake of his death. I just find it awfully convenient a thinly-veiled memoir has suddenly surfaced and just happens to be completed. Perhaps I'm being cynical.

Unsealed Court Documents Reveal Allowance From Michael Jackson's Estate to Mother and Children

Michael Jackson's mother is receiving $86,804 per month from her son's estate to support herself and her three grandchildren, according to court records released Thursday.

Katherine Jackson is one of the primary beneficiaries of her son's estate along with the late pop singer's three young children and unnamed charities.

Over the course of a year, Jackson's mother and children are slated to receive more than $1 million in support from the estate. Katherine Jackson's monthly allowance is $26,804; the children's allowance is $60,000 per month.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved a monthly stipend for Katherine Jackson and her three grandchildren in August. The amount of the payments had been sealed until Thursday.

Katherine Jackson has been named the children's permanent guardian. They are currently living at the Jackson family home, Hayvenhurst, located in the San Fernando Valley.

Katherine Jackson's $26,804 per month pays for an assistant, housekeeper, driver, utilities, clothing, grooming and other expenses.

I know I have a single glove somewhere in my closet...

One of Michael Jackson's white sequined gloves just sold at Australian auction house Bonhams and Goodman for $57,600 Australian (US$48,400), almost twice the estimated selling price. The glove was put up for auction by the estate of Bill Hibble, a fan who caught the glove Michael tossed to the crowd after the Australian premiere for his short film "Ghosts."

The Jackson Reunion is On Again

According to TMZ Michael Jackson confirmed he will go ahead and perform the one-night-only concert with his brothers and Janet in Texas. He also intends to keep his engagement in London's O2 Arena. The only problem is, his London gig violates the agreement Michael's rep signed with the Texas promoters; in the agreement, Michael can't perform anywhere else for 18 months. If Michael shows for the concert in the Lone Star State, he will earn a $3 million pay check; the rest of the Jackson 5 will split $500,000. Read that last part over again and let it digest. No word on how much Janet will earn.
