Justin Timberlake regrets throwing Janet Jackson under the bus

Almost six years after the career-changing incident, Justin Timberlake apparently has regrets over the way he treated Janet Jackson in the wake of their 2004 Super Bowl scandal. The two were performing what was sure to be a showstopping routine during half time of the game when at the end of a song,Timberlake ripped open Jackson's shirt to reveal her naked breast covered by a pastie. Viewers had to be keen of eye to catch the momentary flash, but the fallout lasted for years.

Both Jackson and Timberlake apologized, with Jackson calling it a "wardrobe malfunction", however only Jackson's career seemed to suffer in its wake. Timberlake, for his part, denied knowing Jackson was topless, and distanced himself from her allowing the media and the public to draw conclusions she alone was responsible for the flash. Janet was left alone to deal with the fallout as she watched her album sales fall and her endorsements dry up. She retreated from the public eye, becoming a recluse and gaining quite a bit of weight. "Nipplegate" on CBS was seen by an estimated 140 million viewers and brought unprecidented complaints to the FCC and a huge fine for the network. Now, Timberlake says he's sorry. He told Entertainment Weekly he regrets his handling of the situation. “I wish I had supported Janet more. I am not sorry I apologized, but I wish I had been there more for Janet,” he said.

Personally, I used to be a JT fan. I loved his music and his style of dancing, but the way he treated Janet...really left a bad taste in my mouth. He came out of it with his career intact, but in my opinion he abandoned her like a coward. He was the one who actually ripped her shirt, not her. He humiliated and exposed a Black woman on international television. Why wasn't it considered assault? How can you blame someone for someone else ripping their clothes off? I never understood that. Even if they had planned it, they should have stood together to take the heat. Instead, he took the easy way out. I never forgave him for it and never bought anything else he did. He lost a fan in me back in 2004. How did you feel about it? Do you think he's being sincere now?

first off, i think it was planned. second, i'm not mad at jt for throwing her under the bus because if the roles had been reversed, janet would have acted like she didn't know his ass. let's be real, that's how the jacksons get down. mike has thrown people under the bus, and so has janet. its what they do. but this time, the shoe was on the other foot.

  2. It definitely was planned, but didn't come off in the way they thought it would. Didn't janet finally admit that? I think they both should've just owned up to it when it happened and I mean both. Maybe her career wouldn't have taken a dive like it did. The public can be forgiving if they believe you're sorry. Nobody believed the wardrobe malfunction story...come on...who wears a nipple shield under their clothes.

  3. So what did he expect to be under there instead of her titty?

Who has Mike thrown under the bus? Explain that.

need we remember the many lawsuits that mj racked up? borrowing money and then telling people to kiss his ass? or making deals with his brothers to tour and then not doing it? mj did stuff on his own terms. he was cool to be buddies with, but in business, his word was like water. i love mj as much as the next person, but he was a shrewd business man. he had a lot of friends, but he had a bunch of enemies too.
when you think about it, if his death was planned, there were MANY people that could have wanted to see him go under.
and i'm not saying this as a hater. i've got all of his solo albums and i cried my eyes out when he passed. but he was human and he was flawed. i'm not going to call him a saint just because he's dead now.

and let's not forget that janet jackson lied about being married for a decade and then she went and got herpes medication in the name of one of her employees without asking her permission. or should we talk about all of that weight she gained and then had some bs reason about a movie role that never happened as her reason behind it? janet is a pr machine, but she ain't a saint either.

  7. I believe JT was looking out for himself. I stopped listening to his music after the way he handled the situation. I won't even listen to any collobos that he has done with other artists. Typical white boy letting someone else take the fall for the entire situation.....As for Janet lying about being married-that is really no ones business. There are people who don't want the media in their personal relationships. Being an entertainer is seperate from being married.

  8. Andy Gibb didn't acknowledge his wife and child when he was a hot singer during the '70s. If JJ didn't mention about being married oh well. A lot of people have come up saying they are owed this and that since Michael passed. Doesn't make it gospel though. As far being a shrewd business man, he had to be. He was being effed over and much as some apparently feel he was effing over people. The "handlers" in Michael's life are to be investigated. Like TohmeTohme having cash ($5.5 mil) that belong to Michael stored away at his residence claiming Michael gave it to him to hold for the next time he is in the market for a new home. They had to get the money from the man the day Michael passed away. It is also said by Michael that none of his brothers helped him with anything regarding the tour. It was all left up to him. So, he may as well tour alone. Jermadness recorded word to the bad speaking ill of his brother and was out promoting the song like it was a big deal. I don't doubt there were many that wanted to see Michael go. The love of money would cause some people to do anything.

  9. I agree with 2:23 that marriage was Janet's business. No one said she was a saint either. She had terrible taste in men. As for Mike screwing people over, don't believe it. All those J5 tours were arranged with him as the headliner w/o his permission. As a matter of fact he has been sweetly telling his brothers to kiss his ass since the 80's. They brokered the deals anyway because no one wants to see them with out Michael. Most of those lawsuits are bullshit. Landis got paid for Thriller in the 80's. He wasn't owed shit else. Same for Ola "Spread for Playboy" Ray. As a matter of fact, Michael threw extra cash her way on numerous occasions just because he felt sorry for her pathetic ass. Get a j-o-b and stop trying to peddle your 50 year old p-u-$-$-y!

  10. cosign @3:03 & 6:27 Mike was surrounded by leeches and most were his family. And a lot of people did shit behind his back and expected to get paid and Mike no (softly) but still no. And then they got mad.

  11. I definitely cosign with that Ola Ray comment. Puhlease!!! After over 20 years, he old ass comes up saying she is owed $44 mil (LOL). Damn, did she direct the video? All she did was prance her stank ass in the video and she feels she is owed that much money? LOL. Those buffoons and leeches in his life did not care for this man nor did they have his best interest at heart. Mike just got tired of being the damn human bank to all in his life. There are many recordings of his conversations and most would confirm why he preferred to be around kids sometimes because kids did not have a hidden agenda or were money grubbing individuals like those in his family and those others surrounding him. Mike had an addiction and his addiction was fed into. These clowns talking about money now is just disgusting. Everyone is just trying to cash in and that is what Michael had to deal with on the daily. Shame.

May you FINALLY be at peace Michael.

  12. Jermaine is the main one (with his UGLY ASS) that made that awful recording directed towards Michael. I don't care what went down between those two, he never should have made it public. Michael sang on his recording, Tell me I'm not dreaming, and then turns around and does that? Once again, he tried using Michael is some form or another for his personal gain. He has always been jealous of Michael and felt most of the success Mike had was suppose to be his. I can see why Michael separated himself from most of his family. Most appear just to be hangers on. These grown ass men were just sitting around waiting for the next tour? Are you kidding me? Janet managed to get out there and do it. These guys are really talented musicians so there was something they could do besides ride Michael coattails. I know Michael got tired of that.

  13. Let's not forget that cruhazzzy ass sister of his, Latoya. This chick doesn't have the sense of a dung beetle but I do agree with her about Michael being murdered and so did the coroner apparently. I am a bit sickened by the footage of Michael's memorial and funeral being shown for this show the brothers have on A&E. That seems like really poor taste to me and clearly exploiting the death of Michael Jackson. It just seems to me these people wil stop at nothing for money. Yeah, everyone else is and everyone has bills to pay but at the expense of a loved ones passing? SMH.

Seems Michael had been supporting the family since the tender age of 6 and had been non stop until the day he passed. The man worked all of his life. All of it. And even now he is still taking care of his family.
