Caribana Parade This Past Saturday in Toronto, Canada
Jump up and stand back.
That was the plan.
It worked, too, until about 3 p.m., when the gyrating masses at the 42nd Caribana parade decided they'd had enough. It was time to celebrate in true Caribana style. Up the street, thousands of plumed masqueraders danced with heroic stamina, while bass-heavy soca music rattled the peripheral vision of anyone who got close enough to one of 37 bands. Organizers estimated more than a million revellers attended the parade along the 3 mile route. The annual festival ended on Sunday.
IRS Now After Diddy?
The IRS is focused on Sean "Diddy" Combs' Atlanta spot Justin's Restaurant, claiming it owes $7,373 in federal taxes, reports the Detroit News, citing public records. The restaurant, named in honor of his son, opened in 1998 and specializes in upscale Southern and Caribbean cuisine. An identically named restaurant in New York City closed a few years ago. The Internal Revenue Service filed the tax lien against Diddy's ATL joint on May 18.
Steve Harvey's "Hoodie Awards" at Mandalay Bay

"Birthday Sex" Singer Encourages School Attendance
Chicago Public Schools raised some eyebrows by asking R&B singer Jeremih Felton to use Twitter to encourage students to return to school.Every year at this time, Chicago public school officials pull out all the stops trying to get kids back in class for the fall term. This year, they put aside any prudish notions and called on the "Birthday Sex" man to get the job done. Felton, 21, is a Morgan Park High School alumnus. The singer, whose best known for his hit song "Birthday Sex," has 75,000 followers on Twitter. "He's agreed to help Twitter our students back to school," said Ron Huberman, Chicago Public Schools CEO.
Felton wants every CPS student to read his tweets on Monday, September 7th, the day before classes begin. "Make sure y'all stay tuned on that day for the message I be puttin' out," said Felton. CPS officials hope his Labor Day messages are nothing like "Birthday Sex," which is racy and in some versions pornographic. The song has soared to Number 1 on the R&B charts.
"It's just a song. I'm a writer and I write a lot on experiences I've heard other people go through," said Felton. Huberman said he's heard the song "Birthday Sex" and so has Mayor Daley and he has proclaimed, "That is my JAM!" While the song and video might not be appropriate for a CPS classroom, the CEO and the mayor would not second guess the choice of a pitchman for the back to school effort. "We think he's a great role model," said Huberman. "It's freedom of speech. Why not? You can be a wonderful engineer or whatever you want to do in life. Do something. Let him do it." ,said Mayor Daley.
Supermodel Naomi Sims Dead at 61
Naomi Sims, the fashion model who in 1968 became the first black model to appear on the cover of Ladies' Home Journal, has died. She was 61.
Sims, said by some to be the first black supermodel, died Saturday of cancer in Newark, N.J., her son Bob Findlay told The New York Times. It had been decades since she left the runway to become an author and launch her own wig empire.
The Billionaire Boy has a new venture
Skateboard P held a press conference monday to announce a new partnership between Element Skateboards and Brooklyn Machine Works. Johnny Schillereff,founder of Element Skateboards, and Joe Avedisian, founder of Brooklyn Machine Works, will be releasing a new bike and some men's apparell, presumably influenced by Pharrell's skateboard style.

The sorority may not like this movie, but at the moment, it has bigger problems. International AKA president, Barbara McKinzie, is being sued by the sorority for misuse of funds. The lawsuit claims she spent $90,000 of the sorority's money on lifesized wax figurines of herself and the sorority's founder, as well as charged designer clothing, lingerie, and jewelry on the sorority credit card. McKinzie then allegedly redeemed the points earned by the purchases to buy gym equipment and a big screen TV. In addition, McKinzie's cronies on the board of directors signed off on a $1 million life insurance policy and a $4000 a month stipend for four years after she leaves office all without the approval of the group's membership. The lawsuit demands return of the money and the resignation of McKinzie.
Suspect arrested in Vernon Forrest's murder
Police have arrested a suspect in the killing of boxing champion Vernon Forrest. Demario Ware, 20, turned himself in to police on Tuesday and is being held in the Fulton County jail on charges of murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to an Atlanta Police spokesperson.
Forrest, 38, was shot in July after being robbed at a gas station by a man who asked him for money then snatched his wallet.
Shyne still has to do parole
After serving eight-and-a-half years of a 10 year sentence for his participation in the Club New York shooting on December 27, 1999, rapper Shyne finally become a free man on October 6, 2009. Now he has to go back to court because they forgot to structure his parole.
“What happened was when they sentenced him [in March of 2001 to ten years] they didn’t sentence him to any parole – post release supervision, which was mandatory. So the Correction Department has asked the court to re-sentence him – under the law they can do that,” explained Shyne’s attorney, Oscar Michelen, to HipHopDX. “And so the judge will decide whether to give him the maximum parole, which is five years, or the minimum parole, which is two-and-a-half years. Shyne will automatically have to do at least a year-and-a-half,
Why won't this story go away?
Chris Brown's sentencing for his assault on ex-girlfriend Robyn Rihanna Fenty will be made official today in a Los Angeles courtroom. The judge is expected to impose five years of probation, 1,400 hours community service, and domestic violence counseling. Chris cannot have contact with Rihanna again until that is completed. Rihanna will not attend the sentencing.
Breaking news: Of Course Bill got those women
Of course Bill Clinton was successful in getting Euna Lee and Laura Ling released from prison in North Korea. Word is Kim Jong Il told the women months ago he would let them free if they got a high ranking government official like Bill Clinton to fly halfway across the world to meet with him. For his part, the former president refused to go unless he could guarantee he would successfully negotiate their release. This whole trip was cooked from the beginning. The Obama Administration keeps stressing that this was a private trip, but it is obvious private citizens cannot enter North Korea without harsh consequences. Things that make you go hmmm.
Question: both women admitted in a phone call with Lisa Ling they knowingly crossed illegally. Skiers who knowingly go into avalanche zones then have to get rescued have to reimburse certain municipalities for the costs associated with their rescue. Should these two women be responsible for the costs associated with obtaining their release? If they made that statement of their own free will and it is true, should they have to apologize to the United States for all the trouble they caused? Should the same hold true for those backpackers who recently crossed into Iran?
